Patient Identification Scheme

UltraLinq can associate multiple exams as belonging to the same patient.  The method in which this occurs is the Patient Identification Scheme.  Users with the "Admin Login" role may adjust the scheme to one of three options.

To adjust the Patient Identification Scheme, navigate to Admin -> Patient Identification Scheme.

The default selection is:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • DOB

A more restrictive option is available:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • DOB
  • Gender

Along with a more permissive option:

  • MRN only

Multiple exams must match identically on all data points to be associated as the same patient.  A successful match results in several actions:

  • The demographics or MRN update to match the most recent exam for this patient.
  • Within the exam viewer, exams for this patient show as having "Other Exams".  Within the "Other Exams" dialogue you may view prior images/reports, and compare prior sets of images to the current set.
  • The option to pull a prior report becomes available.

*UltraLinq discourages MRN as a the default option for patient matching.  In rare cases, a modality may send a "not null" value when MRN is left blank.  If MRN is set as your account's default setting, this will result is all exams with the "not null" value being associated as the same patient.  If you have further questions about this, please contact UltraLinq Client Services.
